A bérletnyitó orosz‒olasz hangverseny grandiózus programját Mihail Glinka második operájának (1842) színpompás nyitányzenéje vezeti be, majd igazi bravúrként a zeneirodalom legnehezebbnek tartott billentyűs versenyműve, Szergej Rahmanyinov III. zongoraversenye (1909) csendül föl Oxana Schevchenko kazah zongoraművésznő szólójával. Gioachino Rossini utolsó operájának (1829) nyitánya méltán vált népszerű hangversenydarabbá. Alfredo Casella Itália című rapszódiáját (1909) szicíliai és nápolyi élményvilág ihlette. Szerzője fölidézi a bányászok énekét, a nagypénteki kórus hangjait, majd vidám táncdallamokat is, köztük a halhatatlan Funiculì, Funiculàval. Alessandro Palumbo karmester zongoraművész és zeneszerző is egyben, aki Európa számos jelentős operaházában (Nápoly, Torino, Parma, Granada, Antwerpen) vezényelt már.

The grand programme of this Russian-Italian concert, opening the Capriccio subscription series, begins with the colourful and exuberant overture to Mikhail Glinka’s second opera, Ruslan and Lyudmila (1842). This is followed by a true feat of virtuosity: Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto (1909), widely regarded as one of the most technically demanding works in the piano repertoire, performed with soloist Oxana Schevchenko, the acclaimed Kazakh pianist.
The overture to Gioachino Rossini’s final opera, William Tell (1829), has deservedly become a favourite of the concert repertoire. Alfredo Casella’s Italia, a rhapsody composed in 1909, was inspired by the composer’s impressions of Sicily and Naples. The work evokes the songs of miners and the sounds of a Good Friday chorus before moving into lively dance melodies, including the immortal Funiculì, Funiculà.
Conductor Alessandro Palumbo is also a pianist and composer. He has appeared on the podium of many of Europe’s leading opera houses, including those in Naples, Turin, Parma, Granada and Antwerp.
